Having a crucifix over the altar is liturgically correct for the celebration of the sacrifice of the Mass. The figure of the Risen Jesus has been our standard and has inspired many of our parishioners throughout the years. Not to worry, our Risen Jesus is not being taken away. The Crucifix will be placed above the Altar representing the sacrifice we are celebrating in the Mass and our Risen Jesus will be placed above the exit of the sanctuary as a reminder he is Risen when we leave to “Go and Serve the Lord”.
Many Miraculous events have been attributed to the Crucifix of Limpias, most notably 100 years ago between 1919 & 1920. Thousands of testimonials and sworn affidavits are archived in the church sacristy attesting to the eyes opening and closing as well as the head and mouth moving. Some of these testimonies can be seen at the Miracles of the Church Website www.miraclesofthechurch.com or read about in a book online “The Wonderful Crucifix of Limpias: Remarkable Manifestations”
A desire of Deacon Gary Forse was to place a similar Crucifix above the Altar at St. Michael’s. Not a Statue to be worshipped, but a symbol of Christ’s Sacrifice for us on the cross.
Plans are underway to bring this crucifix and beautiful statues of Joseph and Mary to St. Michael’s.
