This feast celebrates Mary as the Mother of God. The Gospel readings for this year portray the visiting shepherds informing Joseph and Mary that the angels had announced that their son is Savior, Messiah, and Lord. The scripture tells us that Mary kept all these things in her heart. Then the shepherds glorified and praised God for all that had been revealed to them.
Because the Feast of Mary, Holy Mother of God, falls on a Monday, it is NOT a Holy Day of Obligation.
